Accessible Apartment Reset | Rochester, MN
The Challenge
Following a major life transition, this Rochester apartment needed to be restructured for accessibility, independence, and ease of daily living. Furniture placement limited mobility. Walkways were tight. Storage was difficult to reach. Creative supplies and musical equipment shared space with everyday living needs. The goal was to improve flow, safety, and function — while preserving the warmth and personality of the home.
The Approach
This transformation focused on thoughtful layout changes and functional simplification.
In one focused session, we:
• Cleared and widened wheelchair pathways
• Repositioned furniture for safe navigation
• Simplified storage to ensure essential items were within reach
• Organized crafting supplies into contained, accessible systems
• Reset the main living area to create a clear, open layout
• Reduced visual clutter to create calm without removing personality
Every adjustment was made with accessibility, dignity, and sustainability in mind.
The Result
The apartment now supports independence and daily function with ease. Mobility is improved. Creative spaces feel usable again. The living area feels open and breathable. The transformation was completed in just one day.
